Every time you buy or sell a share on the Dhaka Stock Exchange, a brokerage commission is charged by your broker. This is the primary fee that investors encounter and it is calculated as a percentage of the total trade value. The commission rate may differ for buy-side and sell-side transactions.

In addition to brokerage commission, several statutory and regulatory charges are applied to each trade. These include the LAGA fee (a charge levied by the stock exchange), the Howla fee (a transaction tax collected on behalf of the government), and AIT (Advance Income Tax) deducted at source on sell transactions. For example, if you purchase shares worth BDT 100,000, the total cost will include the share price plus brokerage commission, LAGA, and Howla on the buy side.
